News from @sengineland (First Google Toolbar PageRank Update Of 2011) shows that Google have celebrated the new year by releasing an update to their infamous PageRank system. Many websites can now find out how Google currently rate their website by staring lustily at that little green bar in the Google toolbar add-on for your favourite web browser.
Of course, many SEO experts will tell you that you shouldn’t care or pay any attention to PageRank or what it means (or doesn’t) for your site and SERPs.
In fact Google themselves have previously discussed the importance of not giving a damn. They’ve openly stated that there are over 200 factors affecting a sites ranking and, despite the name, PageRank is of little consequence.
Still, I was rather cuffed to see they’d given my work blog a enough green blobs to make it PageRank 3 (out of 10). Considering it’s been PR0 for the majority of the year. Of course, PageRank doesn’t equal money (or a payrise) so why should I care?
