When Call of Duty became Medal of Honor

I recently stole borrowed Call Of Duty:BlackOps off my brother to give it a quick spin on my PS3. I have to say, I was unimpressed. I knew I would be.

One of the main reasons Call of Duty has always been good because it allows you to play a variety of people. You’d play Russian, American, British characters across various theatres of war. This latest installation sees you playing, one man, yes, an American. Surprise, surprise.

This sort of style of game is more like the Medal of Honor series.

I also found the gameplay frustrating and old-hat. You’d find yourself facing off against endless waves of enemies and the story would not progress unless you followed your NPCs or did exactly what was expected of you. It’s a very corridor based, scripted, first person shooter. Sure, Call of Duty always has been like that, but there’s nothing innovative, just the same old thing. The only difference now seems to be the daft stories…

Gone are the days when game designers tried to break the mould and impress you.
